Ich habe mal die Fragen (vom Sinn einiger dieser Fragen wollen wir mal nicht reden *kopfschüttel*), die Matti auf seiner (jetzt leider geschlossenen) Homepage gestellt wurden, reingestellt. Aber nur die die auf Englisch sind. Ich hoffe das ich noch jemanden finde, der mir die Fragen die auf finnisch (des versteh ich leider nich *grml*) sind übersetzt.

Do you fly home during the competitions during the summer grand prix?
For example do you fly home after Hinterzarten and stay a few days in Finland or do you drive directly after Hinterzarten to Courchevel???

Answer: 1) It doesn't concern you. 2) I don't study at the moment. 3) Maybe because I've done this (jumping) over 15 years, I'm littlebit use to it... 4) 2 days at Christmas time just relaxing... 5) Yes, he's playing in Vieraileva Tähti -group, they've released two singles but I don't know do they still play together or not...

Answer: Planica is the only place where season should end.

Answer: I've said this before and I say it again: In Finland skijumping ain't a big thing, not even a medium thing. So, another words, in Finland nobody cares. And no I don't have a pet.

1) Will be Jussi Hautamäki still jumping in world cup or continental cup? I´ve read that he want to quit skijumping and this was his the last season. If it is true - what´s the reason?
2) When is possible to meet you on ski-jump in Kuopio?
Answer: 1) He's still jumping... 2) At summer or winter, but not at spring time...

2. When will be next competition where you will participate?

Answer: 1) I could say that april is our holiday month. 2) Maybe summer GP at Hinterzarten..? 3) Yes, unless something else happens... 4) No. 5) If I would know how to do it, I would do it right away. But I don't know, so I don't have a clue...

Answer: Though one...(because it has been a pretty long time since I've actually ordered skies...) I'm not actually sure. But I think that some models you can order through ski club, or contact to those ski models wich you want to order. Except that some models do it (this) only to promote their normal skies...

Answer: 1) ?? Well, we play volleyball, football etc, time to time... 2) It's ok... 3) Not so much, we have once in a summer junior skijumping camp, and A- and B-team jumpers are coaching... And I've been couple of times one of the coaches at junior jumping school... But that's it... 4) I don't even have a home...

Answer: What's so funny? But ofcourse Nykänen was the best.
Question(9.3.2004): Hi Matti, which competition in this season you liked the most? And do you like more competitions where are crowds of spectators (Zakopane, germany,...)or you like more competitions which are more calm and quiet and nobody annoys you with photos, autograms etc. (Liberec)?

1) When you are staying on the skijumping hill what are you thinking about to calm yourself? Do you have any psychological practises?
2) If you have to value this season from 1 (the worst) to 10 (the best) which mark it would be?
3) Is it necessary or important for you to know technical parameters of ski jumps at which you are jumping? Is technic of jumping different on different ski jumps?
4) Are you interested in history of skijumping?
5) Can you imagine life without skijumping? Do you think you will sometimes jump in your free time when you quit from profesional skijumping? Is it possible to jump only as a hobby (when you don´t have permanent training)?

Answer: 1) I don't have to, I'm always calm. 2) 5 or 6. 3) Theory is nothing, you only know the hill if you jump of it. 4) Not much. 5) Easily. Sure it's possible to jump just for fun...

Answer: Jussi jumps in world-cup right now... I don't remember his rank, it's somewhere between 35.- 45. (?)
Question(9.3.2004): Hello, I´m interested only in this question: If you weren´t in good shape for a longer time, would you finnish a season like Hannawald or you would continue independently of your results? Do you think it´s sports behaviour not to take part in competitions when you aren´t between the best?
Answer: I would jump the hole winter no matter how bad I would be. If the coaches wouldn't pick me to world-cup, I would go to continental-cup. If I ain't there, then I would jump in Finland. And if someone wants to quit in the middle of the season, it's his own business.

Answer: 1) 146% of your own height, for example 180cm long jumper is allowed to use 263cm long skies. 2) I can't remember, I think it was -89, at Virpiniemi(?)...

Answer: I've heard/read stuff that they 'would' build it either Levi or Suomutunturi, only rumours so far...

Answer: It depends, for example when I was in USA, I came home and read new questions, there was over 250 new ones (not always that much tough...). So it's impossible to answer all of those questions...

Answer: Skijumping is quite popular sport in Finland but finnish people are interested at sport itself rather than jumpers.

Answer: If you are in A-team, skies and helmets are for free, but suits and stuff we pay for ourselves. That's the way in Finland atleast.

I have one question after weekend in Planica, by the way you were great. How do you feel before the fly on Velikanka? Are you scared? I heard that some mesures had been take in slovenian team and the jumpers had their pulse in breakfast time around 200 and they weren't phisically active. Also Zupan (head slovenian coach) said that three days of skiflying are incredebly hard for a jumper and fear is something natural. So what can you say about that?

1) Do you know that new ski jump is planning to be built in Moscow?
2) Is it possible that you can decide not to jump when you are waiting on the top of the skijumping hill and the weather is so bad that you think it would be dangerous for you but trainer want you to jump? Could you be penalize when you would refuse to jump? Because many jumpers complain that they had to jump in dangerous conditions but I think that it is also their decision... So I´m really interested how it is in fact.

Answer: 1) Didn't know that. 2) Nobody ain't pointing a gun at you to force you jump if don't want to, but it would be extremely emparrassing to refuse to jump, atleast I would be ashamed...
Question(25.2.2003): What´s the weight of skijumping skis? Do you care for your skis yourself or you have specialist in the team who make it? From which material is made a skijumping suit?
Answer: It depends how long are they, for example if skis are 260cm they must weight atleast 2,6 kg (* 2 = 5,2 kg together) plus bindings ofcourse. At home myself and at competitions we have usually specialists. My english ain't good enough to explain it...
Question(25.2.2004): when a competition of world cup will be in Kuopio, will you be accomodate in hotel with others skijumpers or you will be sleeping at home?

Well,I can understand that some questions are a little bit stupid or to private, but I think that you should never forget that the people who are asking these questions are your fans.
They pay so much money to see you at the competitions or they just watch the competitions at home and hope that you will win or jump good.
That is why I can't understand why you answer some questions that rude....as someone wrote before, that hurts your fans!
Somehow it is not fair to treat somebody who supports you and skijumping in general like that.

1) Do you like the K185 hill at Harrachov? I've heard it's back on the calendar for 2005(?), and for some reason it's always been my favourite hill. The camera angle from the jumptable is really good - it gives the impression that you guys really CAN fly!
2) Do you like any of the following bands - Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force, Stratovarius, Hammerfall, Symphony X or Motörhead?
3) How often during the series of European events do you return to Finland [to train]? Say, in between the recent Oberstdorf and Willingen, did you just travel straight to Willingen or make a quick trip back home to Kuopio after Oberstdorf?

I asked myself if your form of answering the questions here and the fact, that you’re nearly never smiling when you’re in TV, was some kind of “self protection”, because you don’t want to seem “too” likeable in publicity - are you maybe trying to keep peoples interest off from your person in behaving that way or are you simply not interested about what happens beside your jumps? Answer: Couple of times I've had few extra heartbeats for sure, but if you really are gonna get scared while jumping, then it's time to quit. That's my opinion. Greatest fun? Planica, becouse there is the biggest hill and season usually ends there, that's fun.

Answer: Irritating or not, it's pretty much the only way to make sure that no one ain't cheating. First they look at the suit when it's still on, and if it looks too big, we take it off and they measure it.
